The Church of the Holy Abortion
Written by Emily Rainbow Davis, Directed by Emily Hartford
Performed by Kristen Vaughan
A priestess of the Church of the Holy Abortion tries to make the new reality clear to a pregnant anti-choicer. Abortions are holy now and required. But don’t worry, you can still have a baby in ten of the fifty states!
Inspired by the Dobbs decision and reactions to the loss of Roe V. Wade, this piece explores what the anti-abortion rhetoric could sound like on the other side. Looking at the flipped justifications of those who want to impose their beliefs on the rest of us, we can see how absurd they really are.
sub[vert]way
Written by Emma Denson
Three strangers (one cis woman, one trans woman, and one gender fluid person) are riding home on a subway at three in the morning. They bask in the glory of the freedom to exist how they want: for once they don’t have to act small, or hide behind their books or phones, or do anything to avoid the gaze of a potential predator. Their dream quickly devolves into a nightmare as they fight for a way off the train and away from the memories. "sub[vert]way" addresses the inescapable, public harassment experienced by so many women and/or queer people on a daily basis. It asks audiences to surrender their roles as complacent passengers.
Hogar ~ Colombia
Choreography by Paola López Ramírez, Developed by Valerie Green
Music by Christopher Reyman, Josė Alejandro Morale, and Sidestepper
Performed by Karma Chuki, Erin Giordano, Kristin Licata, Sara Pizzi
Hogar, land, territorio, ancestry. Home is all that is mundane and the most inexplicable magic. Home is that which bred you, all you love and all you hate. Magnificent complexity.
Hogar was commissioned by Valerie Green as part of is an international cross collaborative dance project with choreographers from Sweden, India, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Lebanon, and the United States. They created work examining the meaning of home from their unique perspectives. In this dance by Paola López Ramírez’s, Hogar is simple and complicated. Home.
